Keeping Fit for Barnado’s Young Carers
Elsa Wright, a Year 8 student, is a keen runner and would normally be out with the school running club each Monday evening and doing local park runs. Keen to keep herself fit, focused and healthy, Elsa decided to use her time to run at least 5k each day during the month of June, and raise money for a great cause. Her chosen charity is Young Carers at Barnado’s.
Using a set route, which takes her around Easby, and is over 5k, Elsa runs at the end of the school day, Monday to Friday, and early mornings at the weekend. Her big sister and Dad are taking it in turns to accompany her and are enjoying the challenge too.
Elsa said: “I chose Barnado’s Young Carers as my chosen charity as National Carers Week is in June and I read how much more challenging Young Carers lives can be as a result of lockdown.”
It is estimated there are around 700,000 young carers in the UK who provide assistance, care and emotional support to another family member.
