Katie secures sought-after place in prestigious Youth Orchestra

Congratulations to Katie Rawson, in Year 11, who has secured a sought-after place in the Tees Valley Youth Orchestra. Katie auditioned on the clarinet and was immediately asked to join the orchestra. An accomplished musician, Katie has recently passed Grade 8 on both the clarinet and the alto saxophone, which is a fabulous achievement. An integral part of the music scene at Richmond School, Katie plays in the orchestra, jazz band, saxophone quintet and the concert band. Congratulations to Katie Rawson, in Year 11, who has secured a sought-after place in the Tees Valley Youth Orchestra. Katie auditioned on the clarinet and was immediately asked to join the orchestra. An accomplished musician, Katie has recently passed Grade 8 on both the clarinet and the alto saxophone, which is a fabulous achievement. An integral part of the music scene at Richmond School, Katie plays in the orchestra, jazz band, saxophone quintet and the concert band. She recently played first clarinet in a performance of Mozart’s Serenade for Wind and has also played clarinet and saxophone in the school production of Joseph. Stephen Boyd, Lead Teacher of Music, said: “Katie is an exceptional musician and has been a stalwart of music-making at Richmond School since her first week of Year 7. I am absolutely delighted with her progress and look forward to many more memorable performances.” Katie is completing a GCSE in Music and has expressed interest in continuing her musical studies at A-level. Katie commented: “I am thrilled to have been accepted into such an incredible orchestra, and I am looking forward to playing a new and challenging repertoire with a full-sized ensemble for the first time.”
