Headteacher’s Values Award Winner

30 November 2021  |  Jill Lundberg  |  Posted in:

The Headteacher’s Values Award was presented to Leo Russo, in Year 11.

Leo was nominated by Mr Moore, who wrote: “Leo is a keen basketballer and he has assembled a lovely group of Year 11’s students who have been coming along after school on Tuesdays and Fridays every week to practice which has resulted in us entering them into the U16 Area Basketball Rally (a competition we don’t usually enter). The training sessions organised after school for the group are 100% pupil led and consist of Leo taking the group through skills practices and games where Leo will play, coach and referee. He has shown fantastic leadership skills and is encouraging, knowledgeable and commands respect from the others in the group.

“The team went to the U16 Rally where they really did themselves and the school proud. They were, as expected, a pleasure to take to the rally to represent the school. When we arrived it was made clear to me that only 2 of the 10 students had ever played a full context game before. They were very impressive and won their first game against Thirsk 20-6, lost their second to the eventual winners 6-13, and lost their third 2-11 but ensured everyone who attended got plenty of minutes. We now have plans to ensure this isn’t their only fixture before the end of the academic year so we look forward to seeing how they progress together.”
