Congratulaions to Harry Veitch, in Year 8, who has been selected for the Durham County Under 13 Hockey Academy. Twelve-year-old Harry has been playing hockey for four years and has secured a coveted place in the Academy after being nominated by Durham City Juniors Hockey Club and then successfully completing the selection process which took place over four sessions at Maiden Castle, Durham and at Yarm School.

Gary Ferguson, of the Durham County Hockey Academy, said: “Lead coaches were very impressed with the standard on display and are looking forward to working with the players moving forward- it has proved very difficult making a decision regarding selection.”

Harry trains with Durham City Hockey Juniors and has also been selected to play for Durham City 5 Development Squad. In addition, he trains at school and has recently been invited to join in the training with Richmond Town to develop his game further. Playing four times each week, Harry is dedicated to his sport which we know will see him go far, especially as the Academy project is part of the England Hockey Pathway

Harry was thrilled to meet Fiona Crackles, who won Bronze at the Tokyo Olympics for England, during a training session with Durham City hockey Juniors.
