Great results at the North Yorkshire Schools Cross Country Championships

31 January 2020  |  Jill Lundberg  |  Posted in:

Thirteen students recently achieved great results in the North Yorkshire Schools Cross Country Championships at Tadcaster. Congratulations to Maggie Longstaff, Ollie Rogerson, Ashton Newall and Henry Wright (Year 7); Charlie Wallace (Year 8); Joe Reeve and Charles Bacon (Year 10); Charlie Stephenson, Dan Francis and George McCowie (Year 11); Matthew Lambert, Sam Kettlewell and Izzy Walton (Year 13), who all ran really well.

There were some notable performances:

  • Maggie finished 10th out of 51 runners and qualifies for the Northern Counties Championships in Penrith
  • Charlie Stephenson won the Inter Boys race outright and had already qualified for the English Schools Cross Country Championships in Liverpool
  • Dan Francis finished 9th and Joe Reeve (a year younger) finished 12th in a field of 33 runners
  • In the Senior Girls race, Izzy Walton finished 8th and will run again at Penrith
  • Matthew Lambert finished 5th in the Senior Boys race and is also through to the English Schools Championships

Charlie Stephenson subsequently competed in the North Yorkshire South Durham Harrier League and came first in the Under 17 event.

All our students showed real resilience on a very cold day against some tough competition. Well done to them all!
