REPORT 3: U13 VS SFX – AREA CUP FIRST ROUND – 8-1
After recently playing in a friendly vs SFX, the first round of the Area Cup presented itself as a highly competitive game. SFX had won the friendly and Richmond were looking to amend that defeat and progress through to the quarter finals.
The game started brightly for Richmond as they created a lot of forward attacking football. Phoebe and Freya on either wing caused the defence plenty of problems, but every forward ball was quickly mopped up by the SFX keeper. Richmond were relentless on the attack, but chances for Charlee and Connie were once again kept out by the SFX keeper. Against the run of play, SFX scored a brilliant free kick during their first attacking chance of the game. They took it well from 25 yards out, putting the ball over the wall and into the top of the Richmond net.
Determined not to go into the half time break behind, Liv took it upon herself to run through the SFX defence and coolly slotted the ball home, making the score 1-1. After half time, a few changes were made to the line-up, allowing more creative and attacking freedom for the forwards. Liv pushed further up the field and the wingers rotated, continuing to cause problems for the SFX defence. Now Liv had the freedom to press forward as much as she liked: every pass was played her way by the midfield of Freya, Chloe, Annie and Mathilda, beating the offside trap on multiple occasions. Liv scored a further 6 goals! She didn’t get all the plaudits for scoring every goal, as Phoebe managed to get on the end of one of Liv’s passes to pop the ball past the SFX keeper to make the game 8-1. A resounding victory for our U13 Richmond girls. Player of the match went to Liv considering she contributed to every goal, scoring 7 and assisting 1.
