Mr Beresford, cover supervisor and one of Richmond School’s Girls Football Development Coordinators, recently accompanied two teams down to Bedale to compete in the above competition. He provides this report:

“Last week, the Year 7/8 and Year 9/10 Hambleton and Richmondshire Area 7-a-side girls football tournament took place at Bedale Football Club.

The sun was shining ready for a fantastic day of football. The format of day meant that the Year 7/8 team and the Year 9/10 played against the same schools at the same time.

Round 1: Northallerton

Year 7/8: 1-1 draw. Goal scored by Liv.

Year 9/10: 2-0 win. Goals scored by Jorge and Freya.

Round 2: Bedale

Year 7/8: 5-0 win. Goal scored by Liv x3, Charlee, Freya.

Year 9/10: 2-0 win. Goal scored by Jorge and Ava.

Round 3: Y7/8 vs Stokesley & Y9/10 vs Queen Marys

Year 7/8: 3-0 win. Goals scored by Liv x2 and Freya.

Year 9/10: 3-1 win. Goal scored by Freya x2 and an own goal.

Round 4: Easingwold

Year 7/8: 1-0 win. Goal scored by Liv.

Year 9/10: 2-0 win. Goal scored by Chloe and Freya.

Round 5: Cundall Manor

Year 7/8: 2-0 win. Goals scored by Liv and Freya.

Year 9/10: 3-0 win. Goals scored by Freya x2 and Ava.

Round 6: Wensleydale

Year 7/8: 2-0 win. Goals scored by Liv x2.

Year 9/10: 1-2 loss. Goals scored by Sarah.

Round 7: Thirsk

Year 7/8: 2-0 draw. Goals scored by Liv x2.

Year 9/10: 0-0 draw.

All of the girls showed fantastic determination and teamwork to play some truly brilliant football, maintaining their focus and intensity throughout all seven games.

The Year 7/8 girls finished in first place with a fantastic 19 points out of a total of 21, winning 6 games and drawing 1 and conceding only one goal in the entire tournament. Area Champions!

The Year 9/10 team finished 2nd on goal difference having won 5 games, drawn 1 and lost 1, scoring 13 goals and conceding 3. A really tough way to just miss out on 1st place but the girls should take real credit from the way they played. Area runners up – so close!”
