GETTING ACTIVE AT EAST BARNBY

16 May 2022  |  Jill Lundberg  |  Posted in:

A group of 20 girls from Years 7 to 9 have been given the opportunity to take part in a project aimed at increasing physical activity time and improving awareness of available activities in the local area. As part of the project, the girls received a full day of activities at East Barnby Outdoor Education Centre. The girls participated in canoeing, climbing, skiing or bush craft skills.

They had a fantastic, fun day and were also introduced to their ‘Activity Passport’ which includes six different challenges for them to complete over the summer term. All challenges have been set by School Games Organisers across North Yorkshire with the aim of improving the amount of physical activity that each pupil takes part in by increasing their knowledge of local opportunities and improving their self-confidence and resilience.

To conclude the project, the girls will be invited to take part in a huge colour run at Richmond School in July. The girls can either take part by running in the event or by acting as a sports leader and helping to organise the event. It will be the first time that Richmond School has organised and hosted a Colour Run and it is already proving to be a popular event.
