GCSE DANCE STUDENTS ATTEND FANASTIC PHOENIX DANCE THEATRE WORKSHOP
Our Year 11 GCSE Dance students and three Year 10 GCSE dancers had the fantastic opportunity to visit the Phoenix Dance Theatre in Leeds for a workshop.
They attended their professional studio where they were welcomed by a company dancer who delivered a technique class. This developed into their first workshop that explored themes from their professional work ‘Shadows’, by Christopher Bruce. In this workshop they explored the character of the son where students had to perform very strong and aggressive actions. The students were challenged in terms of stamina, strength and speed.
They changed teachers for the second workshop and were taught by the dancer who danced in the work Shadows. The students experienced a contrast in movement where they explored the character of a mother. This was technically demanding and challenged the students to perform a more flowing, gentle and continuous performance.
After the workshops, students were invited to watch a screening of the work in their auditorium and finished with a Q&A. Overall, the students thoroughly enjoyed the workshop and it has allowed them to be well prepared for their written exam, as well as gaining choreographic ideas for their own pieces.
