FORMER STUDENTS LEAD COMMERCIAL DANCE WORKSHOP

23 January 2023  |  Jill Lundberg  |  Posted in: ,

Two former students came back to school to pass on their expertise to our current GCSE and Sixth Form dancers. Alex Macpherson and Faith Nacamavuto are both first-year students at UCEN Manchester where they are studying a one-year HNC in Performing Arts (Dance), after which they are planning to study a BA in Dance and Performance.

Commercial Dance forms a key element of their HNC and Alex and Faith were keen to share this increasingly popular genre with the younger students so they could experience the different movements and style.

Over 20 GCSE and A-level Dance students took part in the workshop where they learnt a full routine. They also enjoyed a warm-up which included ab and cardio work to give them a flavour of what happens in classes at university.

Alex and Faith said: “It was fantastic to come back to school and be able to share our experiences with the younger students. Although we only had an hour, the students picked up the routine really quickly and we were really impressed with their efforts and final performance.”

Jamie Pemberton, Dance Teacher, said: “We were over the moon when Alex and Faith offered to come back to school to work with our students.  They led an energy-packed, fun-filled workshop which the students really enjoyed. It was so beneficial for them to hear first-hand experiences about studying dance at a higher level and we can’t wait to welcome Alex and Faith back later in the year for another workshop.”
