GOOD LUCK MESSAGE FROM JONNY WILKINSON FOR TWICKENHAM-BOUND FORMER STUDENTS
Wensleydale RUFC’s first team is heading to Twickenham on Sunday after beating East Grinstead 35-21 in the semi-final of the Papa John’s Community Cup. The team includes seven of our former students: Ewan Metcalfe, Will Reynolds, Joe Larder, Tom Larder, Rob Stanwix, Dan Storr and Ben Parker and we can’t wait to hear how they get on when they play against Teddington in the cup final at England Rugby’s HQ.
Rugby World Cup winner Jonny Wilkinson, who famously scored a drop kick that saw England win the 2003 World Cup, posted a good-luck video message for the team on his Instagram which you can watch here.
In the message he says: “I’m just saying well done on an awesome season getting to the final of the Papa John’s Cup. I know you’ve got your big game on Sunday and I just wanted to wish you well.
“Go out there and explore that amazing talent, and make it feel amazing, bond, get together and play each minute as fully as possible and the rest will look after itself just like it has all season for you guys because of how much you care for each other. Enjoy, take care, couldn’t wish you more success.”
This amazing news for the first team comes hot on the heels of the them being crowned champions of Yorkshire 2 league and gaining promotion for the first time in the club’s history to Yorkshire 1.
