CTEC SPORT STUDENTS LEARN ABOUT KEY PRIORITIES FOR BRITISH CYCLING

13 December 2022  |  Jill Lundberg  |  Posted in: ,

Our sixth form CTEC Sport students attended a talk by Hilary Conway, National Partnerships Manager for British Cycling. The talk is part of a series of visits from local people who work in the sports industry to meet the Meaning Employer Involvement requirements of the CTEC Sport course. The presentation included details of the key priorities for British Cycling as a National Governing Body to increase participation, access and opportunities for specific groups across the country. The delivery provided an in-depth look at how British Cycling links to key organisations such as UK Sport, Sport England and the National Lottery, and how they award funding to be used for specific projects to bring cycling to communities who do not have access to facilities and/or finances themselves.

Students were also given the opportunity to ask questions and they were keen to find out more about how the local Swale Trail was created and how British Cycling are achieving their environmental sustainability aims.

Miss Abbey, Lead Teacher for PE, said: “The talk from Hilary really gave our students a strong case study on the key work of a National Governing Body and covered the essential learning to help out Sport students in Year 13 prepare for their public exams in January 2023. We are keen to involve more local people working in the sports industry with the Sport courses we offer in the sixth form – please contact us on richmond@arete.uk if you are interested.”
