The Year 11 footballers became County champions for the third year in a row yesterday, in a thrilling final at Whitby Town Football Club. Playing Scalby School from Scarborough, Richmond started brightly, showing lots of energy from midfield, and with wingers Eddie Lewington and Nathan Simpson threatening from wide areas. Richmond were on top but struggled to beat the Scalby captain in goal until Eddie Lewington’s mazy run from the right was squared, for Ben Ruddick to score in the twentieth minute. Richmond kept on the attack but couldn’t add to their tally and it ended 1-0 at half time. In the second half Scalby School came out fighting but the Richmond School back four of Ronan Donoghue, Ty Wells, Captain Sean Thompson, and ‘man of the match’ Jacob Steed were too strong for the Scalby attack. Richmond controlled the final minutes of the game to win 1-0.
