CLASS OF 2000 – A REUNION GATHERING

03 October 2024  |  Sven Wardle  |  Posted in: , ,

Kathryn Roe, one of our brilliant alumni, recently brought together a group of Richmond School and Sixth Form College ex-students to celebrate and reminisce about their year group – students who left the school in the year 2000, or the sixth form in the year 2002.

The event was led by Mr and Mrs Potter, who gave a comprehensive tour of the school and sixth form college. A highlight was the surprise appearance of Mr Speakman in the maths office. He had been the students’ Head of Year in 2000 and had taught maths to a number of the visitors. Happy memories, possibly?!

One of the guests had brought along the year group photo, which prompted much laughter and reminiscing, with lots of tales being shared about the happiest times at school and the many members of the year group. The tour concluded with a picnic on the patio and an impromptu photo shoot.

Mrs Potter said: “It was a lovely few hours and really reinforced the importance of Richmond School and Sixth Form College in its students’ lives.”

Below are some quotes from the alumni who visited:

From Kathryn Roe:

‘What a lovely day! It was so enjoyable to reconnect with each other, some who we haven’t seen for more than 20 years, as well as seeing the school together and reuniting with the teachers! We were a little nervous at first (like experiencing a first day back at school!!) but it was lovely to take away a very positive memory. Thank you to the staff involved in making the tour so special”

From Lisa Dobby:

“I still remember a final year assembly which was presented by our Head of Year, Mr Speakman. He told us that time would fly and to make the most of every day as the older you get, the faster time flies! Never a truer word has been said!

It was such a lovely opportunity to see a few old faces and a tour of the new school just days before my son starts there was amazing. My mum, myself and now my son – all Richmond School students!

My mum mentions going to my parents’ evenings and seeing teachers that used to teach her. Now the same is happening to me as some teachers that taught me are still at school now!”

From Amy Thorpe:

“It was an absolute joy to revisit the school after more than twenty years, re-kindle friendships and recount memories together. Thank you to all who made it possible!”

Thank you to Kathryn for organising the event, to Mr and Mrs Potter and Mr Speakman for giving the tour and especially to all who attended!
