Congratulations to Year 8 students, Beth Hutchinson, Diane Murray, Jake Percival and Seth Wilkinson, who won third prize at the annual Chemistry festival run by the Salters institute in partnership with the Royal Society of Chemistry and Newcastle University. In the morning, 17 teams from schools across the North East took part in a challenge to identify unknown salts using various analytical techniques including chromatography and test tube reactions. In the afternoon the teams had to devise a concoction of chemicals to produce a known volume of foam no greater than 50cm3 that could then be reproduced by a judge. Kevin Sandell, Chemistry Teacher, said: It was an excellent day full of investigation and challenge, well done team!”
