Celebrating careers on international women’s day

08 March 2022  |  Jill Lundberg  |  Posted in: ,

It was wonderful to celebrate International Women’s Day by welcoming two inspirational guest speakers to talk about careers to our Year 10 and Year 13 students.
Our Year 10s heard learnt about Apprenticeships with a talk from Anna Mae Thornton from the North Yorkshire Business and Enterprise Partnership (NYBEP). The talk explained what apprenticeships are and what types are available, in addition to how to apply. More and more students are interested in apprenticeships after they finish Year 11, so this will help Year 10 students with their careers planning Post-16. The talk included apprenticeships in Travel and Tourism. Further information is available here.

Jane Schumm, Retail Director, Hays Travel came to talk to Year 13 students about the current climate in the travel industry and recovery post-Covd. She also shared her own experiences which ranged from her Saturday job at the age of 14 years old, to working as a sales Consultant for Lunn Poly and how she has developed her role at Hays and become Retail Director. Hays is a fantastic example of successful business based in the North.  You can find out more about Hays Travel here.

Ange Wilmington also attended from NYBEP. Ange is our Enterprise Coordinator and helps and advises with all out employer events. Ange is also an alumna of Richmond School and enjoyed finding her picture on the back wall in the school hall, where each whole school year group is featured. Ange said: “The last time I was in this hall, I was sitting on the stage doing my final A-level exam. We were a large year group and had to spread out in the hall and onto the stage!”
