Careers update

12 January 2023  |  Jill Lundberg  |  Posted in:

Following our recent post highlighting some of the best online resources, we’d also like to make sure parents and carers know what careers activities are happening across the school, and how you can access support.

Our Careers Advisers are available to help and support students in all year groups with decisions about next steps – students can speak to their tutors to arrange appointments, or just come along to the careers room next to students services and speak to us.

CAREERS MEETINGS: all Year 11 students will be invited to a one-to-one careers’ meeting.

APPLICATIONS FOR SIXTH FORM AND COLLEGES: applications are all now open and we encourage our Year 11 students to submit applications as soon as possible for any courses they are interested in. Students can apply for Richmond Sixth Form College online here.

We will be holding an application workshop with Darlington College in school on 25th January for any Year 11s who would like support to apply.

APPRENTICESHIPS: Miss Hamer, our Careers Adviser, can help students with applications, CVs and covering letters – please just ask if you’d like support – we’ll have more information coming soon on all things Apprenticeships during National Apprenticeship Week.

NATIONAL APPRENTICESHIP WEEK: this is held from 6th-12th February closely followed by NATIONAL CAREERS WEEK FROM 6th – 12th March and will see a host of guest speakers, employers, colleges, apprenticeship providers and universities with us in school during assemblies, workshops and lessons.

CAREERS IDEAS: Our Careers Ideas careers fair will take place again on 6th July 2023 and will be open for our Year 10 and Year 12 students and their parents and carers – we already have over 30 employers, Further Education and Higher Education providers coming along – more info will follow.

Please contact Ruth Hamer, Careers Adviser on ruthamer@arete.uk if you’d like to discuss careers support for your child. We strive to ensure every student is supported to make the decisions that are right for them, so please do get in touch with any questions.
