Anyone for Tennis?

Young sports leaders have been serving up some sound advice as they helped run a tennis tournament for primary school children. Richmond School and Sixth Form College played host to the competition which involved year 3 and 4 pupils from Reeth and Gunnerside, Richmond St Mary’s, Bolton-on-Swale and Carnagill Catterick primary schools. Year 12 sports leaders helped organise the event and also provided the umpires and scorers for the area competition. The tennis was one of a number of sporting events the CTEC sport students were involved with, including cricket, panathlon and cross country as they honed their organisational, leadership and coaching skills. Student Georgia Hill, 17, of Richmond, who wants to be a physiotherapist, said: “We have really enjoyed working with the younger children and by doing so feel we have developed a host of useful skills.” Head of sixth form Leslie Richardson said: “It is always a pleasure to host our local primary schools and see how well pupils interact with our students. The young sports leaders have certainly enjoyed the experience and it is easy to see how they have grown in confidence and ability.”
