YOUNG footballers have netted the trophies, cementing Richmond School’s reputation for producing some of the most talented players in the county.   The School has won the Richmondshire and Hambleton Area Cup at Year 7, 8, 9 and 10 age groups and enjoyed even more success at County level. YOUNG footballers have netted the trophies, cementing Richmond School’s reputation for producing some of the most talented players in the county.   The School has won the Richmondshire and Hambleton Area Cup at Year 7, 8, 9 and 10 age groups and enjoyed even more success at County level.   The Year 7 footballers were the first to win the Area Cup, beating Thirsk School 4-0 in the final, with two goals from Captain, Ben Dale, and other goals scored by George McCowie and Nathan Carvey.   This concluded an excellent season for the team as it also won the Hambleton and Richmond Area 5-a-side tournament earlier in the year.    The Year 8 team completed its Area double by beating Bedale 4-2 in the final, with Josh Coburn, Jamie Atkinson, Gus Glass and Jack Dean the scorers.   The Year 8 squad also became champions of the Area 7-a-side tournament, finishing with an impressive 100 per cent record.   Unfortunately, the Year 8s could not add the County Cup as they were beaten 1-0 in the final by Huntington School, York, conceding in the final five minutes of the game.   Year 8 coach Tom Westgate said: “En route to the final they only conceded one goal and the team was bitterly disappointed, losing in such a close game. The team was also hampered by the fact that its star player Josh Coburn was playing in an international tournament for Sunderland, where he has a two-year contract.”   After losing in the Area Cup final in the two previous years, the Year 9s finally became champions with a close 4-3 victory against Northallerton School.   The Year 10 footballers continued their dominance, winning the Area Cup and Area 7-a-side tournament for the fourth successive year. In the final the team beat Stokesley School 3-1 with goals from Gary Walker, Ryan Hart and Nathan Simpson.   The Year 10s then completed the North Yorkshire and Area treble for the second season in a row when they defeated St John Fisher School, Harrogate, in the County Cup Final. Coach Jonathan Kellett said: “In the final, the team had to dig really deep to get the win against a very strong side. Behind for most of the first half, the whole team produced an outstanding second half performance to win, with man of the match Nathan Simpson scoring both goals”.   All of our players are really committed to training and proud to represent the school. Their work ethic has led to success and they run their socks off every game. This has been one the best seasons ever and we continue to have a huge depth of talent in the squads. They are all best friends who love playing football together.”
