A SPECIAL RICHMOND UKRAINIAN FUNDRAISING EVENT

29 April 2023  |  Jill Lundberg  |  Posted in:

Our friends at Richmond Walking and Book Festival, in partnership with Richmondshire Refugee Support Group, are hosting a special Ukrainian Fundraising event at the Influence Church on Saturday, 13th May at 7:30.

Come along and listen to Dr Olesya Khromeychuk, author and historian, in conversation with Peter Barron MBE, former editor of the Northern Echo and Deputy Lieutenant of County Durham. The focus of the evening will be on the Russian invasion of Ukraine and what the war has done to the fabric of the country and its citizenry.  Dr Khromeychuk has written a poignant account of the fight for Ukraine’s sovereignty through the personal account of her own brother’s death in Eastern Ukraine in 2017 while he was engaged in combat.

Tickets can be purchased here or Richmond Information Centre in the Market Hall. Tickets are £20 per person (£10 for those in full-time education or on income related benefits) There is also a special group pricing structure – if one purchases 10+ tickets, the cost per person is £10.00

Olesya, Peter, Influence Church, the Festival, Millgate House and all the other organisations involved in putting on this evening are providing their services free.  The money raised will be shared between the Richmondshire Refugee Support Group’s “Power to Ukraine” appeal, which is shipping generators to communities across the country, and the Ukrainian Institute London, a UK charity.

Signed copies of The Death of a Soldier Told by His Sister will be available to purchase on the night.

The organisers of Dr Khromeychuk’s appearance in Richmond wish to offer their sincere thanks to the owners of Millgate House, The Fleece Hotel, Influence Church, Octopus Books, Yvonne Finn Graphic Design, Castle Hill Book Shop, Richmond Information Centre, richmond.org and Richmondshire Today for their generous support of this fundraising event.
