A FANTASTIC PRIMARY PANATHLON EVENT

Twenty of our Year 12 Sports Leaders led a fantastic Panathlon event for our local primary schools. Panathlon is a national charity and every year it gives young people with disabilities and special educational needs the opportunity to take part in competitive sport. Val French, who works for Panathlon, has been delivering these events at Richmond School for the last five years. She inspires the young pupils taking part with her infectious enthusiasm and offers invaluable training to our sports leaders who go on to run these events. This Panathlon was a huge success with an impressive 70 children across 9 different Primary schools taking part and our 20 Sports Leaders from Year 12 at Richmond School receiving training and experience.
Within Panathlon, the pupils follow a carousel of fully inclusive activities which include kurling, boccia, messi football and ten-pin bowling, to name a few. When chatting to the primary pupils during and after the event, they shared one of their favourite activities as parachute popcorn which involves launching dozens of colourful balls off a parachute into the air to then chase them and collect them back into the correct container.
The event concluded with a presentation from Miss Hooton, chair of governors and Mrs Potter, headteacher. Miss Hooton celebrated all pupils before presenting them each with medals and certificates.
