A cracker of a Christmas concert

Students brought a cracker of a Christmas concert to school and made sure the audience were very much in the festive mood after being treated to a fabulous musical feast.

The Yuletide extravaganza featured 18 numbers from a wide range of ensembles. The jazz band, concert band, symphony orchestra and choir demonstrated the versatility of the larger groups. The jazz band opened the concert with a lively, toe-tapping medley called Big Band Christmas II which really set the scene. The Choir sang an enchanting piece called Abendlied which they performed with great sensitivity and beautiful harmonies. The audience were enthralled with the symphony orchestra’s rendition of Scene 1 from Swan Lake and thoroughly enjoyed joining in with the Schneewalzer, with help from Jenna Potter, Headteacher, who led on the German pronunciation! The concert band played Starry Night and Jingle Bells giving the audience more opportunities to sing along.

The concert also showed off the tremendous talents of many smaller bands and soloists within the school who performed an engaging mix of Christmas pieces from Band Aid to Merry Christmas Everyone. A highlight of the evening was the sousaphone which has been kindly funded by the school trustees. Our thanks, as always, go to the performers, the back-stage crew and staff, with a special mention for Mr Boyd and Mr Millman who went the extra mile to deliver such an exceptional concert.
