Sixth Form | Amala - Introduction
Welcome to The Amala 2012 Site!
This Summer twenty one students together with some current and former staff members will be going to the Amala Orphanage and School in Tamil Nadu, India.
The purpose of the trip is to give our students a unique and life changing experience. Whilst in India the students will actively be taking part in educating and caring for the children in the school and orphanage. The opportunity will also allow the students to immerse themselves in a rich and diverse culture, which they can both learn from and contribute to in many different ways.
Before embarking on this trip the selected students are required to raise money in order to fund their travel costs and also so that they can purchase educational materials and toys for the children in Amala. Although this is a challenge, it helps to prepare the students not only for the trip but also for later life. Many of the students going to Amala this year will be preparing to leave college very soon, so this could benefit them substantially.
As well as being of great benefit to our students, this trip is also exceptionally important to the children of Amala. Our visit is greatly anticipated, the children look forward to it and plan for it well in advance of our arrival. Not only does it give them a chance to improve their English but also to have a big brother or sister to play with for a few weeks.
