EQUALITY POLICY

IMPLEMENTATION OF THE EQUALITY POLICY
To achieve the aims of the Equality Policy Statement in provision of services, the School will:

Monitor review and develop our services to ensure that they are accessible to everyone in our community, and are fair, flexible and responsive to the needs of different groups in our community.

Understand that some individuals or groups experience more disadvantages than others, and undertake to identify and target provision to meet their particular needs.

Ensure that all service users are treated with dignity and respect, and that cultural diversity is recognised and valued.

Inform and consult students and parents, potential parents and community groups on the way in which services are provided.

Ensure that complaint procedures for students, who feel that they have experienced discrimination or harassment, are accessible and that all complaints are dealt with promptly and fairly

Communicate our Equality Policy to outside agencies and contractors delivering services on our behalf, and include equality factors in the letting and monitoring of contracts wherever possible.

To achieve the aims of the Equality Policy Statement in employment, Richmond School will:

Promote fairness throughout the employment cycle and take positive action in order to develop a workforce that reflects the community it serves, whilst maintaining the highest standards of skills and expertise.

Develop a working culture where all employees are treated with dignity and respect, and where the need to achieve a balance between work and personal/domestic responsibilities is recognised.

Continue to provide all employees with the opportunity to review their employment circumstances and to respond to their varying needs.

Also:

Comply with NYCC guidelines, all relevant legislation and codes of practice, including the Sex Discrimination Act 1975, the Race Relations Act 1976 (as amended by the Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000) and the Disability Discrimination Act 1995.

Ensure that all employees and others that assist the School to deliver services are aware of this policy statement, and develop our Governors and all staff to help them recognise equality issues and further understand their role and responsibilities in achieving a culture of equality.

Integrate this Equality Policy into management processes, including all relevant policies, so that it becomes part of everything we do.

Develop effective monitoring procedures for services, and report systematically to Governors, Management Team, staff and the community on progress made to implement this policy statement, at least annually.

Promote the principle of equality whenever possible, share successes and good practice, and undertake to provide a positive role model to other organisations and employers in our community.

BREACHES OF THE EQUALITY POLICY
Breaches of the Equality Policy will be taken seriously and thoroughly investigated. This may result in disciplinary action where appropriate. Any act or omission that breaches the relevant legislation may also result in legal action being taken against the School or County Council, and potentially against an employer.

IN CONCLUSION
The implementation of this policy statement will take time, and will only be achieved if we work together to develop an inclusive and non-discriminatory culture.
