SCHOOL LIBRARY

‘The Library is a major strength of the school’ Ofsted

AIMS

The library aims to provide a wide range of resources to support teaching and learning throughout the school, and to promote information literacy and reading for pleasure. It is a pleasant stimulating environment in which to work or read and is very well used by all year groups. The library is professionally staffed and open to the whole school community during and outside the school day.

RESOURCES

Both the library on main site and Lower School library have a combined stock of over 15000 items, each carefully selected for relevance to the curriculum, or to support students’ wider interests.

The stock is constantly updated and staff /student suggestions are welcomed. In addition to books we have 30 networked computers with Internet access / DVD’s / CD/Roms / satellite TV for language students/ daily newspapers and magazines/ Topic Files of newspaper articles/ printing and photocopying facilities.

The library has a computerised catalogue and issuing system and we can quickly locate/reserve items as required. Most items may be borrowed for home use.

ACTIVITIES AND SPECIAL EVENTS

The library has constantly changing displays of new stock or to highlight world events. We host an annual Book Fair to celebrate World Book Day, run a monthly book club for students to purchase books, and hold a variety of competitions for students to enter.

OPENING TIMES :

MAIN LIBRARY : 9am – 5.15pm Monday – Thursday
  9am - 3.45pm Friday
   
LOWER LIBRARY : Lunchtime openings only.
