Proposed Link Block from the South West As many of you may be aware, the School was awarded £30m in January 2006, as part of the DfES ‘Building Schools for the Future’ programme. We then put together a further bid to make the school design incorporate major elements of sustainability and as a result were awarded an additional £2m from the DfES to help fund this aspect of the project, taking the total fund to over £32m.
Comments and suggestions received from students, parents, the community, staff and governors have been incorporated into the project and the School has been delighted by the designs that the Architects have produced, which are scheduled to go before the Planning Committee on 27 April.
Work is now proceeding to appoint contractors and once this has been done, they will be included in ongoing detailed discussions to ensure that the phasing programme is managed in such a way that it will not disrupt teaching and learning.
Our intention is to create a very attractive sixth form block in the first phase, plus a new sports hall, then work our way across the site through a three or four phase process, including a major refurbishment of Middle School. When completed, the whole school will all be housed on one site.
Updates and photographs will be added to the site as the project progresses. The pictures below were taken in October 2008 and show work underway on the new six court sports hall and Upper School renovations.
