Headteacher's Values Award winner: Ryan Atkinson

The Headteacher’s Values Award was presented to Ryan Atkinson, Year 11, who was nominated by Mrs Lundberg for demonstrating all the school values in a recent concert he organised and performed in, raising £910 to support the local Flood Appeal.

Mrs Lundberg said: “Ryan used his musical talent to help his local community to the tune of £910 to support the flood appeal in Arkengarthdale and Swaledale.  Ryan  is the extremely talented drummer in a four-piece rock band called 'Feedback', who were due to perform on the prestigious stage of the Ard Rock mountain bike event which attracts thousands of competitors and followers to Swaledale. Following the flash floods, which devastated much of Arkengarthdale and lower Swaledale at the end of July, the Ard Rock festival was cancelled.

Ryan wanted to support the community and what better way than do a gig and donate the proceeds to the flood appeal.  Ryan worked alongside his Dad, Trevor, to  make all the arrangements for the concert at Reeth Memorial Hall.  Not only did Ryan demonstrate excellence and creativity in the high standard of his drumming, performing songs from legendary bands such as ACDC, Arctic Monkeys, Blur and Judas Priest, but also sheer resilience and determination to put on the gig and, in doing so, raise so much for the Flood Appeal. He also showed great independence as he welcomed the audience to the concert, introduced his fellow band members and then thanked everyone at the end.

Ryan has drumming lessons in school and it was wonderful to listen and watch him playing with such, enthusiasm and professionalism.  Ryan was a great team player and had such respect for his fellow band members who he rehearses with at the Hub in Barnard Castle.”
