Alana qualifies for 2020 World Irish Dancing Championships

Congratulations to our Headgirl, Alana Hodgson, who has qualified for the 2020 World Irish Dancing Championships which will be hosted in Dublin in April.

Alana was selected following her tremendous performance in the recent Great Britain Championships and North East Regional Qualifiers.  Alana was placed 1st in the regionals and achieved her personal best of 13th place at the national championship.  She qualifies in Dublin at both events in the Under 19 ladies category.

Alana, who is busy studying for her A-levels next year, manages to fit in an incredible amount of training. She travels to the Phoenix Academy of Irish Dance in Manchester every weekend and also dances at a school in Leyburn each week. In addition, Alana is preparing for her Grade 8 ballet examination in the summer as well as doing daily stamina and flexibility training.

Alana said: “I was so happy to have finally won the regionals after coming 2nd and 3rd multiple times as I’ve been competing at it since I was 8. It might be my last year dancing in the North East region so I really wanted to win my last one.”
